Rock Island: 1812, Illinois is Dedicated to
1. the white and Native American victims of the wars resulting from our American Manifest Destiny western migration.
2. my children Rebecca, Robert, Rohan, and Johanna in the hope they will never suffer in a war.
3. the City of Rock Island and other communities of the Illinois-Iowa Quad - actually, there are more - Cities and Rock Island's wonderful public schools and excellent Public Library, as well as the Black Hawk State Park Museum there above the Rock River.
4. Moline resident and fellow wargamer Mike Welsh who designed Corn Cob Wars featuring a riverine Iowa vs. Illinois war with casino riverboats the flotilla flagships.
5. Augustana's Dr. Roald Tweet who in his retirement pioneered many studies and celebrations of Quad-Cities history and arts.
6. a stunningly beautiful girl of the Potowatomi tribe, who had come down to be a Western Illinois University student and was a checkout girl at Thompson's Food Basket on the west side of Macomb Illinois, and whom I unintentionally (and unhappily) offended 30 or so years ago with my teasing reference to the (1832, during the later Black Hawk War) Indian Creek Massacre – hoping she has since had many equally beautiful children.
War must be confined to history books and games and museums and films.
More comments by myself and others about the game can be read on TalkConSimWorld and BoardGameGeek.
